Matthew 11:29-30 NLT
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Jesus asks us to take the yoke of discipleship. What does that require us to do? Jewish Rabbis used to speak about taking on the “yoke of the law” exhorting Jews to follow the law to the finest detail. Jesus’ yoke is different. Jesus wants us to cast off the yoke of the law and put on the yoke of a Christian who doesn’t need the law because they are following the new commandment alone. If we love everyone as He loved us then all of those details of the law fall into place. I challenge you to think of a sin you can commit if you love God and love all others as He loves you. Yes, that love can be a yoke at times; love one another is sometimes really hard. But it is also that love that gives us rest for our souls and we are never in it alone. He is always there comforting us; supporting us and loving us unconditionally and all He asks of us is that we do the same.
Prayer:
Jesus my Savior, I will take your yoke and go your way. Lead me to do your will and spread your love to all. Amen.
