As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
Jesus loves us like the father loves us. What does that mean and why do you think he said it? I see two different things in this verse. The first is the Father loves the Son and the Son loves us in the same way; which means we are family! We aren’t lesser beings, or servants or slaves or just friends; we are family! It should fill our hearts to overflowing that we are a part of the family of God.
The second thing that jumped out of this verse for me was that He is speaking about a never ending chain of love. The Father loves the Son, the Son in turn loves us so as we remain in His love we will pass it on and love others and they in turn pass the love on as well. That first love from the Father starts a chain that goes on and on and on until someone stops loving and breaks the chain. Our job is to keep the chain going and sometimes to repair the broken links in it with even more love. God has an infinite amount of love so let’s go spread it around.
Dear Lord, as you have always loved me let me love others. Guide me to spread your unconditional love to the world, in Jesus name, Amen.
