The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
The Lord anoints us all to do these things; they are not specific to single people or even Jesus; we ALL are
sent to heal hearts and souls. Of course, we cannot do it alone; that is why we hear in Isaiah “the spirit of the
Lord God is upon me.” We need that guidance and help of the Spirit to lead us. Jesus told the disciples that the
Father would send the Spirit in His place to be with them and guide them and help them spread the Gospel. The
Holy Spirit is still here with us today, but we must let it in and concede to its guidance. In Isaiah’s time prophets
were often anointed with oils but today we are anointed with the Holy Spirit. The end result is the same; we are
sent out by God to spread the Good News, comfort the brokenhearted and set free all held by sin; not just one or
two people but anyone we meet who needs it. Let the Spirit in; let the Spirit lead; and be amazed at the work
you can do.
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to live in my heart and lead me to do your
work. Remind me often to keep an open heart and never shut out even ‘the least of these’. In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
