Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Life is all about choices, we make big and little choices every day that leads us to good or evil. Do I rush for the parking space or let that Mom with 5 kids in the car have it? Do I pass on that juicy tidbit of gossip I overheard or keep it to myself? Can I bend the truth to make my image look better? It is those little choices that lead us astray and let evil in so we have to start with little choice of kindness to get in the habits that keep us on the right paths. If we start with those choices; giving in kindness, saying kind things, leaning a helping hand when we can then we set ourselves on a path that will lead us not only away from evil but to doing better and better things. Our compassion and willingness to help grows with every kind act. This is what Paul is saying; the habit of good saves us from evil.
Heavenly Father, encourage me every day to do kind and compassionate things in Your name and lead us away from temptation, Amen
