Proverbs 4:4 ISV

he taught me and told me, “Let your heart fully embrace what I have to say; keep my commandments and live!

We say we are Christians; but what does that mean? Stop for a moment and think about it; ask yourself “What does being a Christian mean to me? I can tell you what it is NOT. It is not just keeping to the bible rules or, performing rituals, or even going to church. Those are things we DO as Christians but it not what it is all about. To me being a Christian is about having a personal relationship with Christ and to unashamedly live a life that shows that to the world. I don’t always succeed at that, sometimes I let the world or my ego get in the way, so it is really good that forgiveness is an integral part of that relationship. (Praise the Lord he doesn’t expect me to be perfect.)

Now the Proverbs’ verse ends with “keep my commandments and live!” We could take that a couple of ways; one being if we keep his commandments we get eternal life. Or we could take it as following his word doesn’t mean we cannot live a happy fruitful life; but that it leads us to a fulfilling life. Or we could realize that both are true! We can keep his commandments and live a rewarding life here on earth and receive eternal life. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for always being there for me. Lead me to become a better disciple every day and to learn more and more about your ways. In Jesus name, Amen.
