The saint of Young People
As we start February we come to see the fast approaching February 14th, the biggest day to celebrate love. We tend to focus on St. Valentine as the Patron Saint of Love and Happy Marriages, but forget that he is also the Patron Saint of Young People.
This part tends to be overlooked due to the commercialization of the 14th of February and ironically enough, this group tends to be the least engaged in a church organization in today’s world. Young people are struggling throughout their professional lives, personal lives, and spiritual lives now more than ever before. We label younger generations with labels and stereotypes that are disingenuous at best. These generations need to look deeper into some of the scripture, like this verse from 1 Timothy 4:12:
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
So take some time today to offer support to a younger person. Show them you care about their struggle, listen to them as they talk about their perspective on life, love, and faith. You might be surprised to find yourself setting not in the mentor chair, but the mentee one.
