1 Timothy 6:7-9 BSB
For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot carry anything out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
Being discontented about all the things we want, when we have what we need, leads us to bad places. Many people fall into the “I got what I wanted now I want more” pit. But that is not what God wants of us. God wants us to take what we have and use it for His plans not ours. We have lots of excuses not to; we don’t want to give up what we have; we don’t think we will be good at it; and we are afraid people will think less of us; or those we give to won’t use it right. But these are excuses, not reasons. Paul could have said that being in prison was a reason not to preach the Word, but instead he saw it as a whole new group of people to reach out to. Daniel could have prayed in private to appease the King, but he saw it as a way to show God’s power. Every situation we see as an excuse can be turned into an opportunity. When I had the severe anemia and had to go for iron infusions I was upset. But in that room where I went for the treatment were other anemics and chemo patients. I passed out prayer clothes, we all prayer together. Sure having to be there was bad, but we turned it around to be about God. We can turn around any circumstance for God, all we have to do is pray and try.
Prayer:
Blessed Jesus, open my eyes to see the opportunities around me to serve the Lord. Help me to take bad situations and make them better. Help me be your hands in todays world. Amen.
