Genesis 28:20 HCSB
Then Jacob made a vow: “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, if He provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear,
God tells Jacob where to go and Jacob asks only for the necessities. He could have asked for more; a donkey to ride, riches to impress people, fancy gifts to take along; but he doesn’t; he wants food and clothes and God for his journey. Joseph and David were the youngest sons in a culture where being the first born was everything. Jesus wasn’t born into a rich powerful family that could have financed his entire ministry, just a simple family from a small town. We need to learn the lesson in that; even those of us with the least of material things can find ways to work for God; even those who came from nothing, or from sinful lives, can work for the Lord, if they trust in Him. All we really need is “If God will be with me and watch over me”, and as long as we believe and follow Him, He will do just that.
Prayer:
Lord in Heaven Above, give me only what I need to do your will and be with me all the way. In Jesus name, Amen.
