1 Kings 19:4 BSB
while he himself traveled on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
Elijah had suffered enough; he was tired and wanted to quit; he wanted to just die and be done with it all. I don’t know about ya ’all, but I know exactly how he felt. To be so beaten down you just want to quit trying. To be so stressed you think you cannot take it anymore. So, what did God do for Elijah? He had him rest, he sent him sustenance, he talked to him in a still small voice, and slowly but surely, Elijah is restored. He can do the same for us. We are never lost, he knows where we are and if we will let him and trust in him, he will restore us. Yes, sometimes it seems like to much but we need to remember Elijah…stop and take a rest in quiet; talk to God, listen for his answers, and quietly, slowly restore our faith and our strength. He will be there for us just like he was for that prophet all those years ago. He has not changed, nor has His love for us changed. Rest and restore in the Lord. It’s the best place to be.
Prayer:
Holy God in Heaven, when things get to be too much for me remind me to simply stop and talk to you. I know that you alone are my refuge and my strength. Be with me Lord, Amen.
