John 7:51 NIV
“Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
Do we repeat what we hear without finding out the truth or condemn someone because of what we heard? Why? Is it just easier to take something as fact? Do we trust the source of the information too much? Is it what we suspect or want to hear, so we don’t want to know the truth? Are we just lazy? 1 John 4:1 tells us to “test the spirits” and not to believe false prophets (anyone who spreads lies is a false prophet). Had a lady at work once who told the entire business that a co-worker was a drug addict because she had syringes in her purse. When someone finally asked about it, we found out that the girl in question was a diabetic and needed insulin to survive. A good 80 percent of that workplace had believed the gossip to be true and the rest of us didn’t try to find out the truth. Beware the false prophets and careful check their claims, the spirit in them is not the Spirit of God. do not accept someone’s opinion as fact, look into things yourself, pray about it, think about it and find the truth if you can.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, remind me every day to look beyond the surface things and find the truth. May the Holy Spirit lead me to see the lies and see the truth in the world around me. Amen.
