Romans 2:1 GNT

Do you, my friend, pass judgment on others? You have no excuse at all, whoever you are. For when you judge others and then do the same things which they do, you condemn yourself.

Hank Williams Jr had a song with the lyric “Well, if you mind your own business, then you won’t be mindin’ mine” and there is a great deal of truth in that. Not only are we not perfect, but we ought to be spending more time making sure we are walking down the ‘paths of righteousness’ than condemning others for what they do. The time and energy wasted watching and condemning others could be used to help more, pray more, love more or study God’s word more. We ALL have faults that need work to improve us. There is only a limited amount of time in the day, so what if we redirect the efforts of criticizing and trying to ‘improve’ others over to fixing ourselves. Then anytime left over we could use to talk to God about how we could do even more. If we could focus our energy on step by step being more like Jesus then can grow closer and closer to God and in the end, isn’t that what we are really after?

Prayer:

Lord in Heaven above, forgive my sins and my judgement of others and help me to instead sanctify myself to become who you need me to be. In Jesus name, Amen.
