This Lenten season, our worship series Renewed in Mercy invites us to slow down, prepare our hearts, and encounter God’s grace with fresh eyes. Even though we walk this path year after year, God’s mercy persistently meets us as something new—renewing us, reshaping us, and restoring us along the way.

Guided by Scripture and grounded in the Wesleyan understanding of grace, each week explores how God’s mercy accompanies us through temptation, transformation, reconciliation, restoration, and new life. From the wilderness road with Jesus, to the quiet assurance of Psalm 23, to the promise of resurrection at Lazarus’ tomb, we are reminded that repentance is not only turning away from sin—it is turning toward God’s renewing work in the world.

This Lent, we invite you to practice a “beginner’s mind”: releasing expectations, paying attention to where grace is already at work, and opening yourself anew to the mercy that makes confession, healing, and hope possible.

Come and be renewed in mercy—one step at a time.

February  2026

Greetings Members and Friends of Good Shepherd UMC (GSUMC),   

What a beginning 2026 has been! Hopefully, the month of February will follow a more normal schedule. However, it is only February, and TN weather has a way of changing by the hour. Soon, we will be able to return to a normal Wednesday Night Grow schedule and launch some of our new ideas. We have activity based classes, Lent classes, a Beyond the Books class, a study class that is more Christian Education based and large groups gatherings such as Bingo Night, Game Night and Trivia Night. We will conclude our Spring semester with a Tailgate Dinner and Cornhole Tournament. If you have never participated in Wednesday Night Grow, 2026 is your year to begin. Dinner is at 5:30 and study sessions begin at 6:30. There is also something for children and youth each night.

2026 is a Year of Awakening for GSUMC. Sometimes we get too comfortable in our faith practices. We begin to take things for granted, our faith wanes, our participation slacks and our energy for all things faith (Church, prayer, study, giving, presence) lessens. Your GSUMC Leadership and staff have several plans on the horizon to spark your faith in 2026. Watch for and listen for these fresh ideas to roll out in the near future. Stay tuned to GSUMC and join with us in the 2026 Awakening.

As 2026 begins, remember to approach new opportunities with an attitude of hopeful anticipation for what could be for GSUMC. May our personal initiatives be that of “what can I do to contribute to success” and “how can I enhance the next steps”. Continue to pray for your GSUMC leadership and staff, for active spiritual discernment and for God to be glorified in all our efforts.

May each of us find new ways to participate in GSUMC and it ministries in 2026.

4:12 Youth Retreat

A weekend to grow, serve, and have a blast together

Get ready for a meaningful, fun-filled weekend designed just for our youth! The 4:12 Youth Retreat is a chance to step away from the usual routine, build stronger friendships, and explore faith in a relaxed, encouraging environment.

What to Expect

Throughout the weekend, students will:

• Share meals and laughs together
• Dive into games, group activities, and devotional moments
• Serve others by preparing food pantry boxes
• Head out for a special Saturday afternoon outing
• Spend quality time connecting—with each other and with God

We’ll be staying together at the church, creating a safe and welcoming space where everyone belongs.

Dates & Timing

Friday, February 27 – arrive at 6:00 pm
Sunday, March 1 – wraps up after worship service

Cost

The retreat cost is $30 per student, which covers food, activities, and the Saturday outing. Payment can be made in advance or arranged with Tabitha—just be sure it’s marked for the Youth Retreat.

Friends are always welcome, so don’t hesitate to invite someone to join you for the weekend.

Join us as Wednesday Night Grow returns on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Good Shepherd with a meaningful kickoff evening featuring Isaiah House.

We’ll begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Isaiah House will share about their mission and the important work they are doing to serve those in need in our community.

This evening is a great opportunity to reconnect after the break, enjoy fellowship around the table, and be inspired by how faith is being lived out through service.

A Nativity Story

This Christmas, step into A Nativity Story at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church!
The story of Jesus — God with us — remains as powerful today as it was that first night in Bethlehem. Through each week of Advent, we’ll journey together through a fresh look at the Nativity story, exploring the simple and profound truth at the heart of Christmas.

This series is designed to help us cut through the noise of the holiday season and rediscover the wonder of God’s love. Each Sunday, we’ll meet familiar figures from the Christmas story: Gabriel, the Shepherds, the Wise Men, Mary and Joseph, and the Child, each one revealing something new about the hope and grace of Christ.

Join us throughout Advent for worship and special music opportunities as we prepare our hearts for Christmas:

November 30 – One Service at 10:30 AM

December 14 – Children’s Musical at 10:30 AM
