E+R=0, The Christian Equation, Events PArt I

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What are some events in your life?
  • What are some events in Christ’s life?

Events are the structural foundation of life. From the mundane and every day to significant cornerstone events; every choice or no choice and those events that just happen to you. These are stringed together in a long series that culminates into your life, defining who you are, what you do, and where you are physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

  • Do we always ultimately have a choice in the events in our lives?
  • Can you realistically stop an event from happening?

One can define events like this in the following way: “Anything that happens to you, directly or indirectly, that has any impact on your life”. This definition covers every event in your life, the interesting thing is what the bible has to say about events big and small. In Genesis 41:32 it says, “As for having two similar dreams, it means that these events have been decreed by God, and he will soon make them happen.” or what about Daniel 2:21 “He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.”We overlook the fact that what has happened, what is happening, and what is to come is ultimately controlled by God. We as humans tend to think that we can change or shape events, but we fail to realize that some events we can’t avoid with a choice, or with others, our inaction to an event creates an entirely new event. When we are faced with an event, we ultimately have no control on that event happening.

One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

Job 1:13-19

Think about the questions:

  • What would you have done in Jobs shoes?
  • Do you think he had any control over the events in his life?
