We’ve heard this before, having a friendship with God, that’s what we all should strive for as a christian. One thing that doesn’t get discussed very often is what does that friendship look like? I’m sure that we all would love to go get dinner with God, or maybe go bowling, but it’s much simpler to have a friendship with God than that. Here’s a few steps to take to start or grow your friendship with the Lord.
Yes, talk to God. Praying is a key element to do this. But it’s not just praying for what you need. It’s discussing your plans, asking for advice, talking about what’s making your day great or what’s making your day crummy. God wants to hear your prayers.
Nothing is worse when you have a friend continually ask for your advise or help, just to ignore exactly what you’re saying. God talks back to you in moments when you listen and look for the response. Don’t be a friend that always talks, but never listens. God wants you to here him.
You might not fully understand God at first when you get a response. This is because you might not understand God’s background. Taking the time to get to know God, how He works, and what the context of what God might be saying to you is extremely important. Studying the bible, reading devotionals, discussing God with others are all ways to seek a deeper understanding of God.
