Praying for Boldness

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

2 Corinthians 3:12

Boldness tends to get a connotation of being a trait that is exhibited by those in society that are labeled “extroverts”, but is it really? I think back to the story of Moses, who in all accounts was an introvert, and how he reacted to God’s calling to him:

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”

Exodus 4:10-13

Moses eventually did as he was told and took his brother, Aaron with him. What Moses ends up doing is exactly what he was called to do, lead his people out of Egypt. He does it with an eventual boldness exhibited by a strength of faith in God’s plan for him and lives boldly knowing that the Lord is walking with him.

Prayer

Lord, her me as I call out. You are the creator of all that was, is, and will be; the source of endless wisdom and unbounded power. Even though you are all these things and more you profess to me to boldly approach you and communicate with you through prayer. So I as you to teach me to live bold in my faith as I walk along your plan. Use me to boldly love others as your son Christ did on earth. Show me those whose boldness is what I should strive for. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
