Preaching Like a Disciple

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
- Mark 16:15

When we think of preaching the gospel to all of the world we see tend to think of a preacher standing in front of a crowd preaching the word to their congregation. What we tend to forget is the subtle suggestion that preaching the gospel doesn’t necessarily require us to stand in front of a crowd, nor do we need to even speak at times.

This passage from Mark tells us of how Jesus said to the disciples to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation”. Do you see the subtle call within that command from Jesus? let me change it a bit for you, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation“. Now I know I highlighted most of what was said, but I read this and see the following:

  • A call for us to Go out into the world and no matter where we go to preach the gospel to all creation.
  • Preach, can be defined in two ways that I really feel fit well with this
    • to publicly proclaim or teach a religious message or belief.
    • to earnestly advocate for a belief or course of action.
  • Actions always speak louder than words.
  • Jesus also teaches us the the greatest commandments of the gospel are “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

What we see here in Mark from my perspective is Jesus calling us to go, Love God, love your neighbors, and show that love through you how we treat/talk to others, our earth, and the things God has made us the caretakers of during our brief time here on earth.
