Luke 12:15 NLT
Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Greed leads us astray. It leads us to worshiping money and possessions instead of the Lord. Remember the young man that asks Jesus what to do to be saved and was disappointed because to fulfill that he would have to give away his numerous possessions? (Luke 18:15-30). It is a temptation we all have at some point in life. That money I spent on a new outfit, could it have fed that poor family down the street for a week? That money to have the car cleaned and detailed, could it have helped someone who lost their home in the tornados? That high priced coffee bought on the way to work, could it have bought shoes so a child didn’t have to go to school in shoes with holes in them? We need to take the attitude of the old saying “I was sorry I had no shoes until I met a man with no feet” and use that ideal to look at ourselves. We need to start asking “what should I use this talent, money, or possession for? Is there someone who needs something more than me? God has given us much; we need to give back.
Prayer:
Lord, cleanse my heart from the selfishness of possessions. Help me to use what I have to help others in Your Name, Amen.
