Proverbs 4:25-27
Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. Make a level path for your feet, and all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your feet away from evil.
My dad was a businessman and he felt obligated to pass on what he learned about life and business to us kids, usually in stories. The example I remember most is a story of him joining the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a farm kid from the secluded mountains of W. Virginia, and hadn’t seen much of the world. The first few times he went up in the airplanes he was repeatedly reprimanded because he was in awe of the world view from the sky and not paying attention to the training. He could be missing important things, that might save him and his crew later, by being distracted by the world. And so, the lesson of the story was not to let yourself get distracted by the world and miss the important stuff. The world has lots and lots and lots of things to distract us; people, money, power, things, status to name a few. But there is only one important thing to focus on, God. If we focus on the Lord and what he wants and needs from us then those other things don’t matter anymore and the reward becomes life itself. Don’t let the world distract you from the Lord, He IS the important stuff.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, lead me not into the distractions of the world but instead to focus on you alone. Amen.
