Exodus 23:1-2 BSB

“You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness. You shall not follow the crowd in wrongdoing. When you testify in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd.

Do we side with the crowd without looking for the truth out of laziness; or out of fear of speaking up; or do we just not care enough to find the truth? Are we just trying to fit in? or do we just not care? My Mama always said that “silence is a vote of affirmation” so, if the group is wrong or lying and we are going with the crowd, or failing to look for the truth of a matter, or hearing the other side of a thing, we are by default siding with the crowd. We commit secondary sin. It wasn’t our sin to begin with but by accepting it we made it ours. It is a slippery slope to travel. To stay away from the slippery path, we must find truth for ourselves and not follow the crowd. We must find the courage to stand for the truth and to walk away from the crowd. We also need the wisdom to decide things for ourselves. When others tell us things, try to bring us over to their side, try to get us to join the crowd, we need to be strong and look to the truth and to God for answers.

Prayer:

Blessed Jesus, you never walked with the crowd but only walked in the way of the Father, lead me to be the same and help me find the courage and wisdom to stand alone if I must. Amen.
