Matthew 7:12 NKJV
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
If we were to build a business model for our faith this might be a good place to start. “Do unto others as you want them to do to you” was one of the first lessons my mom taught us. It is short, to the point and appealed to toddler logic. Want your sister to share with you? You better share with her. You want them not to hit you, don’t hit them first. It also is a lesson that grows with us to adulthood. Don’t want people to gossip about you? Don’t do it yourself. Don’t want people to be rude to you? Don’t be rude to them. Want people to talk to you? Initiate a conversation. Now sure, in the real world there will be those who go against the grain and don’t reciprocate the kindnesses, but that shouldn’t stop us from trying. Who knows, maybe we are planting a seed that will grow into kindness and compassion? Perhaps sending out that kindness without expecting anything in return will be the turning point in someone’s life. Treat them all as you want to be treated and perhaps you will set an example for them that no one else ever has.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me kindness and mercy, lead me to compassion and justice. Help me to show the world how people of God should be. Amen.
