Gospel Discipleship

I can’t tell you how excited I am about our next sermon series Gospel Discipleship and discovering our discipleship path. This is an approach I have never taken before in understanding how God created us differently in our pursuit of becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus.

That is what a disciple is but how we all get there is more different than I realized when I started reading Gospel Discipleship by Michelle Morris, Discipleship Pastor at Conway UMC in Arkansas, a new “book” that came out right as the pandemic began. It is not really a book however there is only a guide one for participants ( GOLD box front I will have 24 of these hopefully on Sunday) to know more about their Gospel Disciple type and one for congregations ( RED Box front) to help them understand how those disciple types work together as a community.

The book we will really be looking at is THE book the Bible and focused on the Four Gospels to help us to learn what works best for each of us in becoming a disciple. The key is looking at the endings they have written and what they mean. Each week we are going to learn more about what it means if we are Markan, Matthean, Johannine, and Lukan or a combination. And we are going to hear from disciples of each type in our congregation.

And as we learned in Nehemiah, the first step of a journey is always the hardest. I hope you will take the first step with me and scroll down, click the button and take the short 22 question test ( as I answered them some of they really make you think what I think a disciple is) and when you get the results either forward them to me or let me know in some way ( email, text) what 1 or 2 types you are so I can collect them for what we are going to do at the end of the sermon series as a congregation.
