On Maundy Thursday the church remembers the last evening Jesus shared with His disciples in the upper room before His arrest and crucifixion. Maundy Thursday marks three events in Jesus' last week: His washing of His disciples' feet, His institution of the Lord's Supper, and His new commandment to love one another. Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum novum, and refers to the "new commandment" Jesus taught His disciples (John 13:34). In other words, this is "new commandment Thursday." The loud hosannas of Sunday have faded into oblivion. Jesus has gathered His disciples for the Passover Feast. Let us now join in that event of remembrance.

Call to Worship
- L: Welcome to you who call upon the name of Christ. We gather tonight to recall the story of the night Jesus was betrayed. Are you prepared to come to the feast of Jesus, the Christ, whose life was poured out for you?
- P: By the grace of God, we are.
- L: Are you able to watch with Jesus at prayer in the garden indeed, to struggle yourselves to be in unity with God's will for you?
- P: By the grace of God, we are.
- L: Then let us praise God, even in this hour of darkness!
- A: God of all grace and steadfast love, greatly is your name to be praised in all the earth. Bring us to this feast of remembrance with open hearts!

- L: Judas, slave of jealousy, where are you?
- P: I am here.
- L: Peter, slave of fear, where are you?
- P: I am here.
- L: Thomas, slave of doubt, where are you?
- P: I am here.
- L: The story of Christ's passion & death mirrors for us much of our weakness & sin. We all come here as men & women who have missed the mark & who are alienated from God & from our neighbor. As we prepare for these sacred acts, let us remember who we are. Let us join together in the prayer of confession.

O Christ, in your presence we discover who we are. You wash our feet, and we learn how reluctant we are to serve one another and the world around us. We are so like Your disciples, who looked to their own self-centered interests even as You prepared to give Yourself for the sake of the whole world. Our love scarcely suffices for those closest to us, and yet You invite us to join all creation at Your feast. Forgive us, and help us treasure Your presence more deeply, that we may find this night a celebration of overflowing joy.

Margie Perry: Her son, Richard Greer, just diagnosed with stage IV liver and lung cancer.
Patti Harris: Prayers for Bob Hess who had praise God, brain tumors surgically removed. He has recently been hospitalized for BP issues & blood clots in his legs. He is currently on blood thinners. He & his wife so appreciate your prayers!

3/7/2021 Prayers:

Kathy VanBuren: Praises my brother Larry Payne is making improvements. He is off the ventilator and may be leaving CCU in the next few days. Please keep praying we have seen what prayer can do by the changes in the last 2 days. Thank you from my family
Patti Harris: Bob Hess’s surgery site for brain tumors was first accessed through his nostrils & the second at the back of his head. A recent report stated that most ( 85%) of the tumors were removed & the last will be treated with radiation. He’s scheduled for Thursday, March 4, to have the 51 staples removed and nasal cavity reconstruction. Thank you for your prayers! Complete recovery expected in six weeks! Low level radiation will start next week to eradicate the last 15% of the tumors. Praising God for this miracle!

Brent VanBuren Please keep Kathy's brother Larry Payne in your prayers. Hospitalized with unknown kidney issues. Lots of tests being done.
Vikki Chappell Morris Please keep my son-in-law David, in prayers. This will be his last week of radiation
Patti Harris Our Friend, Bob Hess, was up & feeling good on Friday after brain tumor surgery on Thursday. The surgeon was unable to retrieve all of the tumors so surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16.

2/21/2021 Praises:

Joy Cunningham Travis is doing so much better! After a month on a ventilator with COVID he is off the vent. He is able to eat pureed foods! Thank you, GOD!

Jerry Brothers: Please remember the family of Tommy Hinton of Boaz Alabama in your prayers. Tommy is my cousin's husband who battled Parkinson's for years and contracted COVID and died last week. Thank you

John Bradford: Surgery 2 days ago, had a spinal stimulator put in and in so much pain.
Shirley Vaughn: Surgery to alleviate pain from a trigger finger on Feb 2.
Shelly Floor: Former Director of Little Lambs, daughter of Virginia Yancey, sister of Misty Roberts, has Covid-19 and pneumonia. She is very ill. Please add her and her Mama to your prayers.
Patti Harris: Bob Hess (KY), good friend of Jim and Patti Harris, has recently been diagnosed with brain tumors. He is to have surgery on February 11. He is to also have radiation. Thank you for prayers for Bob and his wife, Sue as well as the doctors’ skill & knowledge to treat Bob in the best possible way.
Chris Alley: 92 year-old Mother, Kay, never regained consciousness from her thrombosis and passed away Feb 5th.
